- For all radio communication identification signals
- To prevent harmful interference beyond its national boundary
- As identification conformity with the International Call Sign Series allocated to the administration by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)

D may represent 2 to 9
L1L2L3 may represent any letter A to Z
- Based on the three main geographical areas of Malaysia i.e. Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak; and
- According to the Category of Amateur Radio Service

For special event, MCMC may assign the call sign as it deems necessary to facilitate special event requirements
Foreigner and Reciprocal Call Sign
- A visiting foreign Amateur Radio operator, who holds a valid Amateur Radio Service licence, issued by the authority of his or her country, would be assigned with a reciprocal call sign during the period of visit in Malaysia as follows:

- The reciprocal call sign is assigned based on the principle of reciprocity.
